Pastors Beth and Dave Long-Higgins are long-time directors of Family Camp 1.  For many years they co-pastored, but now Beth serves as the Vice President of Engagement and the Executive Director of the Ruth Frost Parker Center for Abundant Aging of United Church Homes. Dave serves as the Conference Minister for the Heartland Conference of the United Church of Christ. In that time, they have been directing Family Camp 1, first as assistants to Beth’s dad, Rev. John Long, who started the camp in the early 1970’s. Since John’s death in 2002, they have carried on the tradition of Family Camp One with the able assistance of Beth’s sister, Mary Long, who serves as the Family Camp One administrator. Family Camp 1 gathers folks across generations and life experiences into a delightful week of learning, laughter, and love. Some come with their immediate family; others come with their extended family; still others come by themselves and discover that they are part of the “big” family that gathers for this remarkable week of spiritual growth. There is a rich blend of things that people experience when they come to Family Camp One. Here is just a sampling:
  • Different kinds of Spiritual growth opportunities each morning from nursery through adult.
  • No need to worry about meal planning…the camp kitchen keeps us well fed.
  • Wonderful afternoon and evening activities
  • Rich worship at Vesper Point every evening
  • If you are looking for a way to rest, rejuvenate, and renew, we hope you will join us. The gift of Family Camp One is that whether you have been to camp before or this is your first time, you are a member of the camp family. You will find encouragement for your journey and the gift of God’s love nourishing you in many amazing ways.

Check-in time (registration) - Check-in is from 2:00 - 4:00 pm on Sunday at the Camp Office. Everyone must report to the office and check in. If you arrive after 4:00 pm, please check in at the office ASAP the following day.

Have a box of photos that need to be shown off? Are your baby photos still in their envelopes? Then it is time to come to Dunkirk to get them in order! If you are an avid scrapper or new at this, you are welcome to join us for some fun! We not only make photo pages, we share fun, food, and fellowship at our scrapbook retreat! It all starts on Friday night when we get together any time after 5pm in Pilgrims Lodge. We get set up, begin to scrap, share snacks, and get door prizes just for coming. We have contests throughout the weekend, have a class on Saturday, make more pages, and have even more fun! We may even have some time to play Just Dance, or get a pedicure in town. The weekend is what you make of it--all scrapping work or mix in the relaxing and fun! For just $125 you get all your meals, prizes, and again, lots of fun! See you there! If you have a food allergy or concern, just let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you!
